Breathing New life
A note from Pastor Carol McKey:

Several years ago, there was a popular ad campaign for an insurance company: “Life come at you fast!” The commercials were comical but seemed to really hit home.
I am in my mid-fifties with over three decades of ministry under my belt and it sometimes feels like someone pushed the fast-forward button on life. But no matter what season I may be in right now, I realize the season is temporary. That realization can be comforting when we are going through a struggle that seems to be more than we can handle. God never intended for us to handle life in our own strength. We are not strong enough to press through in the tough seasons. Worshiping and inviting the breath of God to breathe life into us gives us hope and peace not only to endure but also to overcome. We need the breath of God daily, not just during the difficult times. Just as our lungs need fresh air, our spirit-man needs “pneuma” (the Greek word describing the breath of God) which does literally give us newness of life.
Ovation Worship’s “Breathe On Us” is a powerful song that draws us to use our faith to actively invite God’s power and presence to lead us into the refreshing we often so desperately need.

Gen. 2:7
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
"The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Again He said to me, "Prophesy over these bones and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.' "Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, 'Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. 'I will put sinews onyou, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the LORD.'
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

From the beginning of time, God has been in the practice of breathing life into His creation! He created man out of the dust and physically breathed life into his lungs. Then, throughout scripture, we see Him spiritually breathing new life into his creation. Then at Pentecost in Acts 2, we see the Holy Spirit breathing upon His creation with a new anointing, fire and breath. The passionate declaration of this song is looking back on the movement of the breath of God throughout time. This culminates with the call for God’s spirit to move upon his people today.
“This is a move of Your spirit, Hearts open we feel it.
You’re breathing new life within
You’re restoring desire
Refueling our fire and breathing new life again.
Breathe on us breath of God, breath on us.”
